Well, I photograph or film anything that moves (and plenty that don’t) for brochures and websites, creating tight, sharp, informative images that convey meaning. This takes a lot of skill, in taking the photos, recording video and capturing audio, but more crucially, in judging what that meaning needs to be. It’s not enough (anymore) just creating to have the technical skills needed to make good pictures, they have to mean something. It’s usually a journey for a client to get from what they think they’d like to what they actually need, so mind-reading, diplomacy and lateral thinking are essential skills for me. For events, too, knowing the intent and motivation in recording the performances, and the final audience, is really critical.
