Here is Leonardo Adonis de Almeida and Marcelo William da Silva’s story of a day out in Rio de Janeiro, in full, filmed live at the Festival de Folklore Surdo (Festival of Deaf Folklore) in Florianopolis, Brazil, in December 2016.
Below you can see the edit. There are two cameras in the room, one at the back (operated by Renato Nunes) and myself, and I cut between the two when it make sense in the story. For example, the first cut, at 35 seconds happens when Marcelo (on the right) catches a wave when surfing, and the second cut, at 41 seconds, hits the moment when he surfaces from the water and shakes his head.
I wanted to make sure that it was obviously a live performance. The audience appears right at the beginning and I left in Leonardo and Marcelo’s triumphal gestures right at the end. I’ve also kept the audio track for hearing audiences.
